UMS Geography Faculty Introduces PAMMU Kadipiro to Help Sragen Residents Facing Clean Water Crisis

The Muhammadiyah Drinking Water Program (PAMMU) has been officially launched in Kadipiro Village, Sragen, to address the clean water crisis affecting residents, particularly in Ngledok and Dlisen hamlets. This initiative is a collaboration between the Geography Faculty of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS), Lazismu Sragen, and the Muhammadiyah Branch Leadership (PCM) of Sambirejo, with the support of the village government.

The clean water crisis has long been a major issue in the village, mainly due to the unstable water supply from the local water company (PDAM). To solve this problem, PAMMU is utilizing a spring from a privately-owned well, which has been proven to have excellent water quality based on research conducted by UMS. The water from this well will be distributed to around 150 households through a pipe network, using gravity flow from a 26,000-liter water storage tank.

The launch of the program has been warmly welcomed by residents, who are relieved to have more accessible and reliable clean water. PAMMU is expected to be a long-term solution and could serve as a model for other areas facing similar issues. Additionally, there are plans to sell the clean water through the village-owned enterprise (BUMDes), potentially increasing village revenue.

The UMS Geography Faculty, in collaboration with Lazismu and PCM Sambirejo, is committed to ensuring the sustainability of this program by conducting regular research to maintain water quality and educating the community on sustainable water management.
