Faculty of Geography at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) is expanding its strategic partnerships with six leading institutions in the fields of geography and environment. The primary objective of these partnerships is to develop students’ skills through self-directed internship programs, funded by the Program Kompetisi Kampus Merdeka (PKKM) competition scheme.
The six strategic partners involved in this collaboration include the Hydrodynamics Technology Research Center of the National Research and Innovation Agency (PRTH BRIN), the Research and Development Agency of Tegal Regency (Bappedalitbang Kabupaten Tegal), the Environmental Agency of Tegal Regency (DLH Kabupaten Tegal), PT. TechnoGIS Indonesia, PT. Sinergi Visi Utama, and CV. Geoproject Mitra Utama.
The independent internship activities aim to provide opportunities for students from the Faculty of Geography at UMS to gain practical field experience, sharpen relevant job skills, and broaden their knowledge in the fields of geography and the environment. Moreover, through the PKKM scheme, the students will receive adequate financial support to undertake these independent internships.
Participants in this self-directed internship program will be engaged in various research projects and hydrodynamics technology applications alongside PRTH BRIN. Additionally, Bappedalitbang Kabupaten Tegal and DLH Kabupaten Tegal will offer opportunities for students to participate in mapping programs within the respective regency areas.
Furthermore, PT. TechnoGIS Indonesia will provide opportunities for students to familiarize themselves with Geographic Information System (GIS) technology and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), which are currently highly relevant in various industries. Likewise, PT. Sinergi Visi Utama and CV. Geoproject Mitra Utama will offer internship opportunities in regional development projects.
“With this partnership, we hope that the students of the Faculty of Geography at UMS can gain valuable work experience and apply the knowledge they have acquired in their academic studies. We also extend our gratitude to all the partners who have committed to supporting the development of students’ skills through this self-directed internship program,” said Jumadi, Dean of the Faculty of Geography.
This partnership is part of the Faculty of Geography’s efforts to support the Program Kampus Merdeka, which aims to provide valuable opportunities for students to develop themselves and become competitive graduates in the job market.
