The Faculty of Geography at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) has successfully conducted a training program and documentation process for ISO 9001 on the Laboratory Quality Management System from July 24th to 26th, 2023. The training took place at Hotel Multazam, Kartasura, and was supported by the funding scheme of the Program Kompetisi Kampus Merdeka (PKKM).
The 3-day training event was attended by the internal team members of UMS Faculty of Geography’s Laboratory, consisting of staff and professors. The training was facilitated by experts from PT Sinerga Tata Internasional, who are experienced in implementing ISO 9001 related to quality management systems. The objective of this training was to comprehend the principles of ISO 9001 and delve into techniques for improving service quality and measuring performance in accordance with international standards.
In addition to the training, this activity also involved the preparation of necessary documents for the ISO 9001 certification process. The documentation process required collaboration between departments to ensure that all operational processes and ISO 9001 requirements were well met.

The support from the Program Kompetisi Kampus Merdeka (PKKM) has been instrumental in achieving our strategic goals of enhancing the quality of education, research, and community engagement.”
The UMS Faculty of Geography Laboratory has set a target to achieve ISO 9001 certification next year. After completing the documentation process, the implementation and trial phases will follow before seeking an audit from an ISO-accredited certification body. With the ISO 9001 certification, the Faculty of Geography’s Laboratory is determined to deliver superior services and research outcomes, solidifying its position as a higher education institution focused on quality and excellence.
