ICGDM 2022: A Global Event for the Exchange of Geographical Knowledge

The 2022 International Conference on Geography and Disaster Management was held Monday and Tuesday (5-6/12) at the Faculty of Geography, University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) (ICGDM). The annual activity of the UMS Faculty of Geography this time raised the theme Geography for Sustainable Development and Prosperous Humanity via the Zoom Meeting room. Through this theme, we hope to create a forum for participants to discuss how geography can help plan sustainable development and contribute to the community’s quality of life.

ICGDM 2022 is a global conference where professionals and researchers from various geographies come together to exchange ideas and knowledge. On this occasion, an interesting discussion forum about the most recent developments in this field was also presented. Human-nature Interactions, Human Geography, Remote Sensing and GIS Application for Society, and Social Aspects of Disaster Management are the four (4) scopes of discussion in ICGDM 2022.

ICGDM which is part of the International Summit on Science, Technology and Humanity (ISETH) was opened on Monday (5/12) at the Mohammad Djazman Auditorium UMS. In his remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Geography UMS Jumadi said that ICGDM is very important as a place to exchange knowledge about geography.

Participants and speakers at ICGDM 2022 come from seven countries: Japan, Poland, Singapore, China, Nigeria, Uganda, and Indonesia. Prof. Josaphat Tetuko Sri Sumantyo, M.Eng., Ph.D. (Center for Environmental Remote Sensing, Chiba University, Japan) and Prof. dr. hab. Mariusz Lamentowicz (Adam Mickiewicz University, Pozna, Poland) are the keynote speakers. Prof. Dr. Sanusi Adeeyo Yekeen (Federal University of Technology Minna, Nigeria), Prof. Nabalegwa Muhamud Wambede (Department of Geography & Social Studies, Kyambogo University, Uganda), and Dr Edy Trihatmoko, M.Sc. were among the invited speakers at ICGDM 2022. The ICGDM 2022 has 46 speakers and presenters. 34 of them were UMS Geography students who participated in the publication program as a requirement for graduating without a thesis. Committee Chair Hamim Zaky Hadibasyir hopes that the ICGDM 2022 activity will serve as a forum for academics, researchers, and practitioners to share knowledge about research and technology. Because everyone can use technology, including people with disabilities and members of underrepresented groups, claims Hamim. It is hoped that the ICGDM will help to advance science in order to achieve sustainable development and community well-being. (*)
