The Faculty of Geography at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) hosted the Visiting Lecture Program from Monday to Saturday, November 25–30, 2024. The program featured distinguished speakers: Dr. Farha Sattar from Charles Darwin University and Dr. Muhammad M. Nawaz from the National University of Singapore (NUS). This initiative aimed to enrich knowledge in geography, strengthen research collaborations, and advance curriculum development.
The program’s first agenda was a general lecture on the theme “GIS, Spatial Data Science, and Remote Sensing Applications: From Beginner to Advanced.” Dr. Farha and Dr. Nawaz shared their expertise with students, demonstrating how geospatial technology can be effectively utilized to advance the field of geography in the modern era.
The second agenda was a publication workshop designed for the faculty members of the Faculty of Geography. In this session, Dr. Farha and Dr. Nawaz shared their insights and experiences on publishing articles in internationally recognized academic journals.
The third agenda involved a workshop on curriculum development. This session focused on updating and refining the curricula for the Geography and Geographic Information Science programs to align with contemporary demands and workplace requirements.
The event concluded with a farewell lunch on Saturday at RM Rasa Mirasa. The Dean of the Faculty of Geography expressed heartfelt gratitude to the visiting lecturers. “We are delighted to have had you as part of this program. Your contributions have been invaluable, and we hope this collaboration will yield long-term benefits, not only for academic purposes but also for fostering international relations,” said Dean Jumadi.
