The Faculty of Geography, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS), has presented an award to Prof. Christopher Gomez of Kobe University, Japan, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to disaster education, academic collaboration, and international research advancement.
This award was given to acknowledge Prof. Gomez’s long-standing involvement in strategic initiatives with UMS. He has actively supported various programs, including joint research in disaster management and geomorphology, student exchanges, public lectures, and collaborative publications in the Forum Geografi journal.
In a recent initiative, Prof. Gomez began a joint research project with Dr. Aditya Saputra, Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Geography, focusing on improving crop yield productivity through early pest detection using drone technology. Notably, Prof. Gomez also provided financial support for this project through a matching fund scheme.
Dr. Aditya Saputra emphasized the importance of this collaboration, stating that it plays a key role in advancing applied research that benefits society.
“We deeply appreciate Prof. Gomez’s contributions—both intellectually and financially. This research is a vital example of international collaboration aimed at delivering solution-based outcomes,” he said.
The Faculty of Geography at UMS looks forward to continuing and expanding this meaningful collaboration to further advance research, education, and community engagement.
